The Isle of Wight County Press Camera Club has more than 1,250 members and we regularly feature their pictures in the newspaper, online and in our sister publication, Isle of Wight Living magazine.
For this Behind The Lens feature, we talk to Dave Brenchley, of Ryde.

Dave's beautiful landscapes and striking street photography always please other camera club members and attract lots of comment.

Why did you take up photography?
Photography has always had a hold on me — since I first got hold of a Kodak Instamatic camera. Remember them, small fixed lens camera — open the back — snap in a film cassette? I was gradually able to afford better gear and the addiction grew......
Why do you love taking pictures?
Deep question, but I can’t imagine a day when I don’t take a few pictures — some bad, some good !
Where is your favourite place to take pictures?
Forgive me here, but it’s Cornwall for landscape photography and Brighton or London for street photography.
What equipment do you use?
I’ve always been an Olympus fan, then I moved to Nikon and now I have finally settled on the fantastic Fuji Mirrorless System.
What is the favourite picture you have taken?
Despite living on the beautiful Isle of Wight, I actually prefer the challenge of street photography to taking chocolate-box landscape images. It’s hard to say what my favourite pictures are — the couple lost in Brighton, sunset at Polzeath Beach in North Cornwall, various artists/bands at many music festivals, sunrise at Bembridge? It’s too hard a question!
Why did you join the Isle of Wight County Press Camera Club?
For the fame.
If you could photograph anyone or any place who/what would it be?
The amazing poet and human being, Sir John Betjeman, paddling in the waters at Daymer Bay in North Cornwall
Anything else you think we should know?
I didn’t want to include a picture of myself in this article — I have a strange aversion to self-image.
What advice would you give anyone who wants to get into photography?
Start gradually — it’s an expensive hobby.
