Two days earlier, the Kaiser Chiefs frontman had been gallivanting around with an entirely different crowd — meeting lions and tigers to draw attention to the work of the Wildheart Trust.
But on Saturday night, music was the focus, and together with his indie-rock bandmates, Ricky headlined the big top for the final show of the evening.
The Kaiser Chiefs played many of their hits, from I Predict a Riot and Ruby to Never Miss a Beat, and even performed a cover of The Who's Pinball Wizard.
But it was backlash from people opposed to the Covid-19 vaccine that took the headlines, after Ricky shouted out the names of vaccine manufacturers AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna during the band's set, and asked fans to cheer depending on which they had received.
He has since been harangued on Twitter by anti-vaxxers, with the band being accused of using their slot at Seaclose Park to promote Covid vaccines.
Responding to a series of hateful comments, Ricky tweeted: "I thought that the virus was frightening, but the dedicated velocity of the ‘Vaccine Risk Aware’ community is swift, personal, harsh, expletive ridden and effective.
"They win fair and square. Twitter is yours."
