WITH the help of two Isle of Wight musicians, a Ryde care home has celebrated both a 50th wedding anniversary and an art exhibition.
Highfield Nursing Care Home was delighted to introduce Graham Yeo-Blow and Ben Allman of the The Apple Beatles.
The pair helped resident Dena Sullivan and her husband Chris celebrate their special day with a performance of their favourite song, Hey Jude.
Highfield residents, their loved ones and staff members all enjoyed and applauded the entertainment.
"Dena developed dementia, and at the same time, Chris suffered with his own health issues," said Dee Cooper, activities and visiting coordinator at the home.
"But with great fight and spirit, Chris battled on until Dena’s needs and wellbeing became too much to cope with at home.
"The emotion and guilt of Dena moving to Highfield was all too much for Chris, but time and healing went by, and the wonderful Chris is now not only dedicated and supportive to Dena, his wife, but to Highfield, too.
"Their wedding anniversary needed to be celebrated, and what a special touch by Graham and Ben to perform their song."
Home manager, Andrea Buciuman, was the one to introduce an art exhibition — involving Highfield’s garden with The Beatles as the theme.
"The idea was like a breath of fresh air," said Dee, who suffers with her mental health.
"It felt like Andrea recognised my darkness and without direct questioning, she approached with a proposal within art.
"I do believe Andrea was my saviour at that particular time."
Andrea said: "The Beatles' music brings joy to staff, residents and their loved ones.
"We share the love for their music, and this enables us to create long lasting memories alongside our residents.
"In the end, all you need is love and a little help from your friends."
