TRAFFIC is heavy around the St John's Hill area of Ryde after a pedestrian was hit by a car this morning (Sunday).
A collision took place between a pedestrian and a car on the bridge near Ryde St John's train station and the surrounding roads are now slow with traffic while the emergency services attend the scene.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service is currently at the scene.
Southern Vectis has tweeted that diversions are in place on Routes 2, 3 and 8 because of the accident.
Buses will instead divert via East Hill Road, Dover Street and Park Road, and this will operate in both directions until further notice.
More to follow.
Update at 12 noon:
One casualty has been taken to St Mary's Hospital by ambulance.
In a stroke of luck, the ambulance crew was on scene after 'stumbling across' the accident, a spokesperson said.
It wasn't phoned in via 999.
Traffic is now flowing freely in the area.
