FIREFIGHTING teams across the Isle of Wight will this afternoon (Saturday) join with their Hampshire colleagues and other fire services across the country in observing a minute's silence to remember those who lost their lives in the September 11 attacks 20 years ago.
Stations will pause at 1.46pm to coincide with the time the American Airlines flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Centre in New York City.
Among the high death toll were 343 firefighters.
On the Friends of Freshwater Fire Station Facebook page, they posted: "Today, on the 20th anniversary of 9/11, Freshwater firefighters will take a quiet moment to remember the 343 courageous New York Firefighters who tragically lost their lives in the attack.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the victims, emergency services workers, first responders, families and survivors effected by this tragic event."
