A RYDE man caught driving without insurance after being suspected of speeding has been banned from the road.
Samuel Martyn Williams, of Great Preston Road, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Friday (September 3).
The 33-year-old admitted one count of driving without insurance, on October 10, 2020.
Prosecutor, Liz Miller, told the court Williams had been stopped by police heading into East Cowes.
She said he appeared to be speeding on Lushington Hill, and when pulled over, was found to be driving without insurance.
Henry Farley, defending, said Williams had his own car with insurance which did not cover third-party vehicles.
He said Williams believed he was also a named driver on his father's insurance policy, but revealed he had been mistakenly removed from it by his brother.
Mr Farley said Williams' brother had slipped up when renewing the insurance policy.
He said it was not a flagrant breach, and while Williams had not been diligent, he also hadn't been the slightest bit cavalier.
An exceptional hardship plea was entered but denied.
Williams was given six points on his licence, which together with the six points already on his licence, warranted a six-month disqualification from driving.
He was also fined £292 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £34 surcharge.
