WE HAD scores of entries for our recent County Press Child of the Year competition and we thought they were all stars, so we asked you — our loyal readers — to vote for your favourites.
There were four age categories and we asked you to choose a winner in each section. Each of the four winners will receive a £50 voucher.
The winner of the zero to nine months category was little Sophia Ryall, who was born on June 20, which coincided with her great nan’s birthday.
Her parents, Gemma Ryall and Liam Robinson, live in Sandown and Sophia has a big sister, Lilly, too.
Sophia Ryall, zero-nine months winner.
Sophia arrived eight days early and was born via emergency c-section weighing just 5lbs 12.5ozs, but she is the apple of everyone’s eye at home.
Arlo Cronelly’s cheeky grin earned him the title of winner in the ten to 18 months category.
Arlo lives in Newport and mum Samantha said: “Arlo loves anything with wheels — cars and tractors — and generally doing anything he shouldn’t be doing.
“His dad recently brought him a toy tool box and he goes around pretending to fix things, although he’s always trying to get hold of the real tools!
“He’s started to climb up on things now, given the chance. He has a real cheeky personality and when he knows he shouldn’t be doing something he gives you the biggest grin to see your reaction!
“His favourite meal is spaghetti Bolognese and he could eat cucumber until it comes out of his ears. He goes crazy when he sees a packet of chocolate buttons too.
Arlo Cronnelly, ten-18 months winner.
“I actually entered his sister Alexa into a Child of the Year competition eight or nine years ago and she came second, so I’m really pleased that Arlo has won!”
Alice Lower was the winner of our 19-36 months section.
She is now 31 months old and lives in Newport with her parents and her baby sister, Ruby.
Mum Abbi said Alice is a total chatterbox and she loves to watch Paw Patrol and Hey Duggee.
Alice loves dogs — she lives next door to her granny and grandad and their Scottie dog, Florrie, but her nanny also lives nearby and has a dog called Penny — and Alice loves them both.
Alice Lower, 19-36 months winner.
Abbi continued: “She loves playing with bubbles and being outside exploring and going to the park.
“She’s a kind, helpful and friendly little girl who gets smiles wherever she goes.
“She loves apples, bananas and eating daddy’s crisps (which she calls scrippies!)
“Alice also loves Ruby to bits and tells everyone about her when we’re out and about.”
Alice attends Arreton Nursery once a week, which she really enjoys.
Finally, Dhyan Patel is the winner of our three to six years category.
Dhyan is five years old, lives in Apse Heath and is just starting Year 1 at Broadlea Primary School.
Dhyan Patel, three-six years winner.
Dhyan lives with parents, grandparents and uncle in the same house, which has made him very family orientated at such a young age.
Living with grandparents meant he could speak gujarati and English at the age of just three and he is fluent in both languages.
He loves to socialise with friends and family and his hobbies include playing cricket, learning about dinosaurs, drawing and colouring and helping his mum in the kitchen.
