RYDE Carnival is in full swing this week, with a whole host of activities for Isle of Wight families to enjoy.
The packed out programme marks the launch of Waving the Flag — a three year project designed to support the growth and sustainability of Ryde’s much-loved annual carnival.
The four-day event culminates with Raw Samba on Saturday, when Carnival company Shademakers UK will perform outside the Co-op in Ryde Town Square from 2pm.
But before the finale, visitors can first enjoy Dance Vibez, the RUG Band and a performance by the New Carnival Company later today (Thursday).
Dance Vibez will be performing at 11am, with music from The RUG Band at midday.
The New Carnival Company will perform A Potted History of Ryde Carnival at 2.30pm.
Yesterday (Wednesday), children were treated to a performance by Huxley the magician and dressed up for a costume competition.
Masie Ruth, three, won with her unicorn costume, while her six-year-old sister, Isabel, who dressed up as a ladybug, placed second.
Eight-year-old Amelia Boswell, who dressed up as an NHS nurse, placed third.
The entertainment was proceeded by a garden in a wheelbarrow competition which was won by six-year-old Millie James.
The Muddy Boots gardening group placed second, and the Tennis Club finished third.
Carol Jaye of Ryde Arts, who created the competition four years ago, placed fourth.
