THE Isle of Wight was represented both on and off the field during Southern Brave's match against Welsh Fire in The Hundred this evening (Wednesday).

The summer cricket competition, which has ushered a new 100-ball format into the sport, has provided a platform for peripheral county players who have been given the opportunity to play alongside established world stars.

It has also increased exposure on the women's game and, through a partnership with BBC Music Introducing, up and coming musicians have been given a national stage to perform on during the mid-innings interval.

One the best cricketers the Isle of Wight has ever produced, Danny Briggs, who bowls slow left-arm orthodox, was the pick of the Southern Brave bowlers.

The 30-year-old took 2-17 from his 20 balls, to help restrict Welsh Fire to 144 for 5 from their 100 balls.

Danny, who played for Ventnor before he joined Hampshire and later Warwickshire, has gained seven T20 International (T20I) caps and made a single One-Day International (ODI) appearance for England to date.

Lauran delights Ageas Bowl crowd

Half time entertainment was provided by singer Lauran Hibberd, who studied at Platform One College of Music in Newport.

The 24-year-old performed her single, Bleugh, bringing a hint of slacker-pop to the stage, with archaic sentiments of verse complimented by a chorus reminiscent of Hole's Celebrity Skin.

Both Danny and Lauran enjoyed a prosperous night, with the duo ensuring Isle of Wight pride was present both on and off the field of play.
