THE PLUG has been pulled on one of the biggest events on the Sandown summer fun calendar — the Pier 2 Pier Swim — because of bad weather.
The event, organised by the Isle of Wight Marlins Swim Club, is traditionally staged between Sandown Pier and the site of the former Shanklin Pier — destroyed by the Great Storm of 1987.
What would have been the 69th Pier 2 Pier Sea Swim was scheduled to take place at noon today (Saturday).
Organised by IW Marlins Masters Swim Club, the annual event, which takes place between Sandown Pier and the site of the former Shanklin Pier, was also cancelled last year as a result of the pandemic.
