IF YOU haven't got tickets for any Ventnor Fringe events yet, why not? There are dozens of shows to choose from, some free, some ticketed, up until August 1.
Ventnor has an extra level of that something special when the Fringe comes alive and you never know what you are going to see around the next corner, from a spoken word poet to a piano on wheels.
Much of the action is centred around Ventnor Park where there are some delightful pop-up marquees and a circus style tent.
One of the big draws this year was drag queen Joe Black, who featured in RuPaul's Drag Race UK.
The self-styled cabaret rebrobate's performance was fabulous and so was that of sidekick Friederich Hollandaise, once described as "terminally bewildered" — anyone who's seen the show will agree that's a perfect description.
The song choices weren't the obvious cliches, but a clever take on the familiar if long forgotten, from Oom-pah-pah to When I'm Cleaning Windows, with just the right level of audience participation required.
Joe Black told the County Press after the show that Ventnor was 'cute' and they were really enjoying their stay. No stranger to the Island, Joe has also performed at Bestival and at Ryde Theatre back in 2007.
Catch Joe again tonight as compere of the Big Fringe Variety Show — a night of top entertainment guaranteed.
Another area to check out is Harbourside, on Ventnor seafront by the bandstand, where there's live music to stumble across.
