The Assistant Chief Constable of Hampshire Constabulary has issued a message, as Covid restrictions are lifted.

She says police officers will continue to wear masks if they cannot socially distance among other measures, despite today's changes. 

Calling it a 'milestone' Maggie Blyth, said: "All remaining legal restrictions have been lifted, meaning there is no limit on people gathering inside their homes or outdoor spaces, weddings can be celebrated in full, and entertainment venues such as theatres and nightclubs can operate again.  

"The last 16 months has been an incredible challenge for everyone and we want to thank residents in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight for supporting us through what has been an unprecedented time in all of our lives."

The Assistant Chief Constable said: "We want to reassure you that we have been preparing in anticipation of this summer period like we do every year, and we’re committed to delivering the service you expect from us.  

"Whilst coronavirus laws have ceased, our collective effort to comply with the health guidance remains paramount. This is a time to be cautious and respectful of others as the guidance is a personal choice. We must acknowledge that some people in our communities may be afraid of closer contact with others as infections rates rise.

"Part of that for us however is continuing to protect you. We will continue to follow health and safety legislation, we will continue to wear masks where social distancing is not possible and we will continue to practice good hygiene measures and undertake regular testing.

"We will be doing this to keep you safe."

She said the force had prepared and planned for a challenging summer but was there id needed, on 999, 101 or via its online reporting tool.
