A RUNAWAY dog was rescued by the Coastguard from the cliffs at Yaverland.

The dog had escaped its owners and went missing from the beach.

Its concerned owner called 999 and the scene was attended by a crew from Newport Fire Station, as well as Bembridge and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Teams.

The call came in at 12.12pm and the incident was stood down an hour later, with the dog safely retrieved and back with its owner.
