AN EMERGENCY call saw Cowes RNLI lifeboat come to the aid of a girl losing consciousness on board a training yacht on The Solent.
The lifeboat had been on a training exercise when alerted to the yacht, at nearby Osborne Bay.
Two members of the lifeboat crew went aboard to assess the girl’s condition.
The yacht was then escorted to Trinity Landing in Cowes, where a waiting ambulance took her to St Mary's Hospital, Newport.
The lifeboat’s routine training evening looked to be further disrupted when police asked
the lifeboat to assist in a search for a missing person.
However, the lifeboat was soon stood down.
Before the two shouts, lifeboat crew members were able to inspect the latest Shannon Class lifeboat, moored at Trinity Landing, in connection with that evening’s Cowes Classic Week prize-giving, held at the Royal London Yacht Club.
Among those attending was the RNLI’s chief executive, Mark Dowie, one of the prize-winners.
