CRUISE liner Scarlet Lady, the inaugural ship of Virgin Voyages, Sir Richard Branson's new cruise line, was seen from the Isle of Wight as it arrived in Portsmouth yesterday.

Ellison J. Withe sent the County Press this photo, taken from Seaview in yesterday morning's dull weather.

It shows the huge 110,000 tonnes ship, which is just 11m shorter than the 65,000 tonne Royal Navy aircraft carrier the HMS Prince of Wales.

It is the largest ship ever to enter Portsmouth harbour and the main channel into the harbour was temporarily closed to allow it access in.

Isle of Wight County Press:

It has proved quite the attraction and has drawn crowds along the seafront in Portsmouth.

It has capacity for 3,000 passengers.

Her maiden season will be a series of sailings around England.

Photography Rue took a video of her at Portsmouth, which can be seen below.

Also these amazing shots, one of which shows Scarlet Lady dwarfing the Wightlink ferry.
