Wightlink's flagship Victoria of Wight will remain out of service until July 13.
The ferry had to be withdrawn last week, because of a mechanical issue with one of the engines.
Victoria of Wight has been temporarily replaced, on the Portsmouth- Fishbourne route, by a smaller, older boat, which means a two-boat service is continuing to run.
Wightlink said: "We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
"If you have tickets booked to travel between now and July 13 and you have been affected by the revised timetable, we will be contacting you directly."
When the larger boat was withdrawn last week, some passengers were left facing hours of delays.
Others were transferred to the alternative Lymington-Yarmouth crossing and sailings ran overnight to clear the backlog - which meant families were among those swapped from daytime crossings, to ones that sailed in the early hours of the morning.
Wightlink had hoped to return Victoria of Wight to service by Thursday (June 24) but the boat is not now expected to return until the middle of next month.
