Nine days of running, by a former Isle of Wight police officer, has so far raised more than £50,000 for a charity that supports road crash victims and has won celebrity support.

Detective Chief Superintendent Andy Cox ran 200km over nine days.

Hannah Ingram-Moore, the daughter of the late NHS fundraising hero Sir Captain Tom Moore and Line of Duty actor Vicky McClure (Detective Inspector Kate Fleming) have been among those to support his efforts.

Andy is the national lead for fatal collision investigation, reporting to the National Police Chief's Council.

He lived in East Cowes from 1977 to 1999, before moving to Surrey.

He is now based in Lincolnshire.

The #AndyCox200km challenge took place across Global Road Safety Week, concluding on Sunday, May 23.

He was running for RoadPeace, which supports the families of people killed in crashes.

Andy said: "The run started from the first ever recorded UK fatal road crash; which was in London's Crystal Palace in 1896 and finished at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.

"Its purpose was to raise money for RoadPeace and to raise awareness of road danger.

"Sadly five people die and 60 more are seriously injured on UK roads every single day and the primary cause is driver error.

"I aim to raise awareness of this subject and influence improved driver standards with a culture of safe and sensible driving."
