I FOUND this cutting from the Southern Daily Echo from December 1973 among my papers and thought the athletes featured would find it amusing.

I know some — like me (then Hayles) — still live on the Island.

The caption reads: “Winners of a newly-formed junior girls Under-14 Cross Country League are Carisbrooke High School.

In their last match against Cowes High School they won by 22 points to 64 and had the first five runners home."
