A NEW calendar of markets is launching on Saturday (April 17) with a market of craftspeople in the heart of Newport.
There are 15 confirmed stalls, with capacity for up to 25, to exhibit in St Thomas's Square, from the early morning through to 4pm.
The event is being brought by Market Days, a community interest company, which is organising a series of markets, starting in Newport but also for other towns.
Saturday's market is focused on craftspeople, with the opportunity to purchase woodcraft, silverware, embroidery and more.
Claire Kennard, who is leading the roll-out, said: "The narrative of the death of the High Street is that large retailers are going, not just here but all over the country.
"Independents are still here. Our focus is on local, bringing life and vibrancy and something different to the squares.
"It is outside shopping, it is Covid safe and we are looking forward to seeing the market traders and all their customers."
