THERE has been a further increase in the number of confirmed Isle of Wight Covid cases, according to the latest data.

Public Health England figures released today (Friday) reveal two new cases have been added to the Isle of Wight's total.

Since the start of the pandemic, 6,699 cases have been recorded on the Isle of Wight ­— fewer than five per cent of the population.

Yesterday, three new cases were confirmed, and another three the day before.

The Isle of Wight's rolling average rate has also risen marginally in recent days.

Yesterday, it dropped 19.8. Today, in the seven days up to March 14, there were 21.9 cases on the Isle of Wight, per 100,000 people.

The UK rate stands at 59.2 cases per 100,000 people.

No new Covid deaths were recorded on the Isle of Wight today.

Yesterday, the Island's director of public health, Simon Bryant, warned a third Covid-19 wave could hit the Isle of Wight this summer.

In a meeting of the Isle of Wight Council's health and wellbeing board, he said they were preparing for any eventualities that may occur as society opens up following lockdown.

Pupils of Christ The King College, meanwhile, told Ofsted inspectors how much they appreciate dedicated staff throughout the Covid period.

Inspectors said it was taking effective action to provide education over the lockdown periods.
