ALMOST a year after coronavirus was first recorded on the Isle of Wight, cases are tailing off as we head through 2021.
According to Public Health England figures released today (Wednesday), there were four new cases recorded, leaving the Isle of Wight's cumulative total at 6,648.
There were no cases recorded yesterday (Tuesday), and just one the day before (Monday).
The rolling average per 100,000 people also continues to fall.
Yesterday, there were 23.3 cases per 100,000, in the seven days up to February 24. Today, that figure stands at 19.8.
It puts us as the ninth lowest area of the UK, above only Orkney Islands (0), Shetland Islands (0), West Devon (7.2), Argyll and Bute (10.5), South Hams (12.6), Torridge (13.2), North Devon 13) and the Scottish Borders (17.3).
The UK average rate is 89.2.
Three new deaths were recorded in the Isle of Wight community yesterday. According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), two people died in care homes and one person died at home.
