A FAMILY separated by the pandemic are aiming to bring some cheer to the Isle of Wight with a raffle to raise money for local good causes, while geeing each other up as they embark on a February fitness drive.

Dana Edkins-Wherry, who suffers from a genetic heart condition, decided to move away from her children and husband in order to shield with her mother after a positive case of the virus was confirmed at their home on January 2.

Along with daughter Macie — a student of Carisbrooke College who turns 15 on Saturday — Dana will be sharing daily social media updates of their progress, with all money raised from donations and ticket sales going to local charities.

Dana said: "Maisie and I have chosen four charities we would like to help: The IW NHS Trust, Carers IW, Isle Help and No limits/Space4u.

"I won’t be going home until I have had my vaccine on Tuesday and then will wait a few weeks to be safe. It’s been hard not being home with my children and husband.

"Anyone who would like to sponsor myself or Macie please do, or you are welcome to help raise pennies by purchasing some tickets for the raffle that will be drawn live on Facebook on February 28 at 6pm."

Macie will be running 5km per day, while Dana – who is limited due to her health – will be performing daily yoga sessions and cutting all junk food out her diet.

Those wishing to enter the raffle, which costs £1 per ticket, can send money via PayPal to dana101@btinternet.com, with their name as reference, or text Dana for more information on 07518 361849.

A full list of prizes is available to view on Dana's Facebook post and include a range of vouchers supplied by local businesses, a webcam, an Amazon Fire Stick, a signed Stereophonics photo and a first aid course with the IW Ambulance Service.
