FURTHER confirmed cases of Covid-19 have been recorded on the Isle of Wight, according to the latest data released by Public Health England.

Another 19 cases have been confirmed today (Sunday), a marked decrease on yesterday's figure of 34.

The new cases take the county's total to 6,393 since the start of the pandemic.

The rolling data of cases per 100,000 of population for the Island, though five days behind, now stands at 146.7.

It remains below the UK average. Yesterday, it was 165.8.

Three more Covid deaths were announced at St Mary's Hospital on Friday.

No new fatalities were recorded today, or yesterday.

There have also been a high number of care home deaths — with 30 recorded on the Island between January 1 and January 22.

THE NHS has assured Islanders appointments are available at the Riverside Vaccination Centre in Newport, despite residents experiencing difficulties in booking them.

Islanders are being urged to check the national booking system regularly as appointment slots will continue to become available.

With high numbers of cases and higher-than-average rolling rates throughout January, the Isle of Wight now looks like it is heading in the right direction after more than a month in lockdown.
