A star count - which aims to measure how dark our night skies are - starts today (Sunday).

From tonight until February 14, we are asked to spend ten minutes counting the number of stars visible in the constellation of Orion.

How to take part

Pick a clear night, stand away from lights and give your eyes some time to acclimatise before you start.

Count the stars within the rectangle of Orion.
