MORE confirmed cases of Covid-19 have been recorded today (Wednesday) ­— though the Isle of Wight's weekly case rate continues to fall.

A further 20 cases, together with yesterday's 28, takes the Isle of Wight's cumulative total to 6,275.

Of that sum, 4,539 were recorded in January alone. 57 have been recorded in February.

The highest daily increase since records began was on Sunday, January 3, when 459 new cases were added.

The seven-day case rate per 100,000 for the Island, though five days behind, now stands at 241.9.

A further three Covid-related deaths were confirmed at St Mary's Hospital earlier today.

According to new data published by NHS England, two were recorded on January 31 and another on February 1.

Yesterday, new government data revealed care homes on the Island had suffered huge losses of residents to Covid.

A total of 24 people in Island care homes died in the week running up to January 22, which meant 30 had died in care homes between January 1 and 22.
