Do you fancy running your own golf course here on the Isle of Wight?

If so, the opportunity has emerged as the Isle of Wight Council has offered the chance to manage the iconic and much loved Brown's golf course at Sandown.

A statement on the Browns Golf Course and Cafe Facebook page in September confirmed the attraction was to close its doors for the final time on September 27.

The statement, posted on behalf of the family team at the helm, Clare, John and Cherry, reads: "Just seven seasons ago we were given the wonderful opportunity to take on Browns from a recommendation of a friend.

A petition was started to try to save the IW attraction.

Now, IW Council is looking for new managers, saying in the advert in today's County Press, it is seeking applications for a business opportunity.

Isle of Wight County Press:

It is seeking applications to run the complex but the advert does not go into detail about how long the contract is for.

It was the length of tenure that led to the previous managers calling it a day, saying they could not invest further due to council plans for the area.

Their statement at the time said: "We gingerly served people knowing the course was not where it needed to be, but knowing its great potential to give Island folk a facility back that had been lost.

"Sadly with the future of Browns in jeopardy and no real security to be able to project the business forward for the future, the time has come for us to hang up our aprons and retire our mowers.
