THE Isle of Wight has seen another increase in positive Covid-19 cases today (Tuesday), according to figures published by Public Health England.
A further 44 cases have been recorded, taking the cumulative total to 1,517 since the start of the pandemic.
It is a marked reduction from the daily high increase of 70 new cases recorded yesterday, with 342 new cases confirmed since Christmas Eve — the same number in six days as for the whole of November.
The total for December now stands at a monthly high 547 — more than 200 higher than any other month to that point.
These are all cases of people registered on the Isle of Wight.
A total of 103 Covid-related deaths are made up of 52 in hospital, 47 in care homes, three at home and one in a hospice.
The Isle of Wight's infection rate per 100,000 is now 227.1 - a notable increase from yesterday's figure of 207.4 and the previous day's 182.7.
At one point, the Isle of Wight's rolling average rate had been the lowest in England.
Several areas, including Nottingham and Bournemouth have registered a lower rate per 100,000 during the past seven days.
