TWO more education faculties on the Isle of Wight have confirmed cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

Haylands Primary School in Ryde wrote to parents yesterday (Sunday) to confirm the case of a Year 2 pupil with Covid symptoms.

An Isle of Wight Council spokesperson said: “A member of the Haylands Primary School community has tested positive for Covid-19. Families and staff have been informed.

"After seeking public health advice, a Year 2 bubble of 68 children and eight staff now need to remain at home and self-isolate as a precautionary measure.

"High-quality remote learning will be provided for the students throughout this time. The school remains open for all other staff and students.”

Meanwhile, the HTP Apprentice College in Newport's St James' Street has announced that a member of staff has tested positive for coronavirus.

This is the first person at the college to test positive and they will self-isolate in line with government guidance, along with four additional members of staff who have been told to self-isolate via the Track and Trace app.

A statement issued by the College said: "For the safety of HTP staff, its learners and any other stakeholders, face-to-face or onsite visits will be postponed with immediate effect, as will any tests due to take place at the Old Grammar School and Portsmouth Lakeside offices.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but are sure that you will agree it is better to take the most cautious approach possible at this time.

"HTP will update all learners on January 4 with any relevant updates."

The HTP site at Riverbank in Newport is not affected and will remain open until Wednesday December 23.
