A BLACKWATER musician has released a new EP under the performance name, Benny Jet.

Olly Fry, 28, has been gigging on the Island since he was 14 and studying at Carisbrooke High School.

Now, ten years on, the singer-songwriter has released his new EP — Tell All the Tall Tales — working with producer Josh Mobaraki of Moving Records.

"It's got a real punk feel to it," said Olly.

"I wanted to capture the sounds of The Clash, and the way they were never afraid to try anything different musically, in their own roughneck style.

"I also have a secret love of Glam Rock and Funk, so there is a sprinkling of fabulousness and quirkiness from artists like Goldfrapp, The Scissor Sisters and Nile Rodgers."

Olly has been putting pen to paper for years, but lockdown and recent events have fired up his song output, granting him a greater sense of purpose, musically.

"Not since the Puritans or The Great Plague of 1665 has the arts suffered so much through forced closure," said Olly.

"Though we are alone, skint and cross right now — to put it mildly — the human soul is never so loud, proud and defiant as when it's singing."

Olly's new EP is available digitally on Spotify, Amazon Music, Bandcamp, Apple Music and TikTok Music.
