A FAMILY has raised funds for Newport charity Mountbatten following an improvised half marathon.
Jodi Smith alongside daughters Amy and Zara Urry, and Zara's partner Andrew completed the 13.1 mile run, with Jodi's partner Geoff and Amy's fiancé Richard providing a support vehicle and water stations.
The half marathon took place around Cowes, Newport, Northwood and Gurnard.
Jodi said: "Last Christmas my daughter told us that she had signed up to do the Cardiff Half Marathon in October this year, I said we would go and watch to support her.
"My other daughter said we should do it with her, so after a few drinks we were all signed up to do the Half Marathon.
"We overcame injuries including blisters, sprains, strains, broken ribs, only for the event to be postponed because of Covid.
"We were very disappointed so decided to go ahead with our own event and to raise money for Mountbatten Hospice."
The half marathon took place on October 24, and saw Andrew finish in 1 hour and 44 minutes, Jodi 2 hours and 44 minutes, and Zara and Amy running together to complete the distance in three hours.
The family have raised £310 for Mountbatten Hospice and a further £46.25 in gift aid through givepenny.com and their Challenge 100 campaign.
Mountbatten provides expert care and support to everyone the Isle of Wight who is facing death, dying and bereavement.
