A COMMUNITY hub in Freshwater has received the royal seal of approval this morning (Tuesday), with a visit from Prince Edward.
The Earl of Wessex, 56, flew into West Wight Sports and Community Centre by helicopter to find out more about the help hub coordinated there during lockdown.
The hub was set up in March, enabling volunteers from the local community to help those who in self-isolation.
A spokesperson for the community centre said: "We were aware we would have a visitor today, but weren't told who until the Earl of Wessex arrived.
"Prince Edward was interested in the work of our help hub, as well as the operation of the sports centre."
The Earl of Wessex last visited the Isle of Wight in October 2016, when among other engagements he officially opened the Isle of Wight Literary Festival at Northwood House, visited the Royal Squadron in Cowes, and attended a service at Quarr Abbey.
