STRINGS in Newport will play host to a platinum LP selling 1990s pop band next year.
Space launched into the UK charts with debut release Spiders becoming a top five selling UK album in 1996, while follow-up, Tin Planet, rose even higher, peaking at number three two years later.
The band, who formed in Liverpool in 1993, reformed in 2011 following a six year sabbatical.
Ian Davison, founder of Strings Bar and Venue, said: "We are really excited to bring these Brit pop legends to the Isle of Wight next year.
"Space have been producing some fantastic music in recent years and sound as good as ever, it was a real coup to attract a band who played such an integral role in the 1990s UK pop renaissance.
"They continue to write gritty, edgy pop songs that captive the imagination of the listener and we're proud to host them for the first time."
Space's most recent studio album, Give Me Your Future, was recorded in 2017 under the guidance of Grammy and Brit Award winning producer Steve Levine, who also worked with The Clash, Culture Club and The Beach Boys.
The quartet have sold more than five million records worldwide and released ten top 40 singles including Neighborhood, Female of the Species and Avenging Angels.
Albums Spiders and Tin Planet have both been awarded double platinum disc status.
Claydon Connor of Strings said: "It’s great to be able to welcome top class touring acts here, the venue is perfect for bands like Space."
Space will be performing at Strings Bar and Venue in Newport on Friday February 19, 2021 at 7.30pm.
