AN ESSEX woman has been sent to a young offenders institute after admitting causing a crash on the Isle of Wight that left a woman dead and four others seriously injured.
A double decker Southern Vectis bus and two cars were involved in a horror crash near Newport in April 2019.
Yaashmi Ravikumar, 20, of Buller Road, Laindon today (Monday) answered one count of causing death by dangerous driving and four counts of serious injury by dangerous driving, in an appearance at the Isle of Wight Crown Court.
Yvonne Copland, 64, was killed in the incident at the junction of Forest Road, Whitehouse Road and Betty Haunt Lane.
A number of other people were seriously injured.
Yaashmi Ravikumar was handed a sentence of 18 months - half of which will be in a young offenders' institute for causing death by dangerous driving.
She was sentenced to 12 months for the other four counts, to be served concurrently.
She has been told to expect to serve half the time in custody, before being released on licence.
She has been disqualified from driving for 33 months.
