THERE will be no cufflinks for Boris after a fundraising campaign was cancelled by the organiser. Isle of Wight businessman Darren Street set up the Crowdfunder appeal last months and quickly raised more than £1,400.
He initially said he wanted to purchase a gift to 'not only say Get Well Soon Boris but also to show our appreciation as a nation and to say Thank You' to the Prime Minister.
His aim was to buy a pair of Purdey sterling silver duelling cufflinks from Harrods, and get them engraved.
Any additional money raised was going to be donated to the charity MIND.
Following a backlash on social media, with many people saying the money could be better spent, Mr Street changed the campaign to purchase cheaper cufflinks and donate more to charity. In the end, he cancelled the project completely.
A spokesperson from Crowdfunder said: "I can confirm that the project owner cancelled this project and all pledges were refunded."
Mr Street, of Newport, did not wish to comment.
