TWO Isle of Wight women have been showing community spirit in abundance, ensuring vulnerable people receive nutritious food without leaving their home.
Ann Abe and Ali Smith cook and prepare between 200 and 400 meals each week for people in need.
Known as railwaymen’s lunches, the meals consist of homemade soup with a roll, ham, cheese and tomatoes, with a cake or biscuits as a sweet.
All meals are prepared in Sandown's Gaslight Café, which is owned by Ali.
Both women are small business owners on the Island.
Ann runs Dance Vibez dance school and teaches at various locations.
Ali runs the Gaslight Cafe, sings with the Bunker Girls, and is involved with a number of of community projects, including courses for women and a walking exercise group.
Ali said: "We are so grateful to all the people who have shown us kindness, both financially and with their time, to bring light to our community during a difficult time."
Ann added: "Everyone has been pulling together during this difficult time. We are now in the process of making face masks to give to care homes and vulnerable people across the Island."
The Free Food For Sandown foodbank is currently operating outside the Gaslight Cafe at least six days per week, those wishing to utilise the facility should contact Ali on 07595 670 101.
