A WEST Wight parishioner has been awarded the St Thomas Award for her work within the Christian community.
Hazel Britton, who attends Christ Church, Totland, will receive the award later in the year from Rt Rev Christopher Foster, the Bishop of Portsmouth.
Bishop Christopher instituted a diocesan award in the name of St Thomas à Becket, patron saint of Portsmouth Cathedral, several years ago to mark notable Christian service in the community and wider society.
Hazel was due to visit the Cathedral to receive her award, but with the Government restrictions on church gatherings imposed, this was not possible.
However, the Bishop was present at a Cathedral Evening Prayer service and presented the awards to all recipients in their absence.
A service will be held later in the year when Hazel will be thanked personally.
