AFTER months, sometimes years, of planning, couples are having to make the difficult decision of whether to drastically scale back or postpone their weddings, due to coronavirus.
The Church of England is now advising only five people are in attendance at ceremonies — the bride and groom, officiator and two witnesses.
One bride-to-be affected is Mollie Tredwell, 22, of Ventnor.
She was due to marry Dan Toogood, 25, the father of her two little boys, Ryan and Oliver, on May 16, but has had to postpone.
The couple were having a low-key affair for close friends and family at Mollie's family's business, the Mill Bay on Ventnor Esplanade.
Mollie said: "We'd planned for our wedding to be really laid back and informal.
"We were having it at the Mill Bay so we would have the chance to do pictures on the beach, etc. We just wanted something simple.
"But due to our youngest, Oliver, already having had a collapsed lung and has constant infections, we decided to cancel.
"We're absolutely heartbroken but it's just not worth the risk to our son or other people.
"Luckily as we wanted something simple, we'd decided to do decorations etc ourselves so we haven't lost much money.
"We're not planning another date yet as we don't know how long the virus is going to be around, which makes it harder as right now we haven't got a wedding to look forward too.
"It all happened really quickly. We'd spoken about what we'd do if it came to the UK but when it started we didn't think we had anything to worry about.
"We never thought it would affect our wedding, but everyone's been really understanding about it."
