ISLE of Wight primary school children travelled to London — to join a choir comprising more than 4,000 children.

In February, 33 children from the Federation of Nettlestone and Newchurch Primary Schools made their way to Wembley Arena to perform in Young Voices.

They joined up with schools from across the south region to form a choir comprising 4,482 young voices, singing songs from a range of different genres, including Somebody to Love by Queen.

The children had been rehearsing individually, and as a federated choir since September, learning 30 songs and dance routines, which included a West End medley, Queen medley, pop medley and fright fest medleys.

They even performed alongside Tony Hadley, sung A Thousand Hallelujahs with The Shires, and I Couldn't Do This Without You with Ruti, winner of The Voice UK in 2018.

"The parents all said how amazing it was — to perform on such a big stage, after coming from such small villages," said teacher and music lead, Laura Feist.

"Some were only six years old, and not many six-year-olds can say they've sang at Wembley.

"When Ruti was eight, she performed in Young Voices, and told herself she would one day be the lead performer on the stage.

"That really inspired our young boys and girls — to know that they can achieve on such a huge scale.

"The kids faces when they walked into the arena was just priceless.

"I was on a forum on facebook and people were talking about the event.

"It's really hard to get in, and I was blown away to secure a place.

"We're already on countdown to perform again next year."
