A WOMAN has been taken to hospital following an incident with hazardous chemicals.

The incident at a home in Ryde sparked a response from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service and the Isle of Wight Ambulance service this morning (Monday).

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "We were called to a small hazardous materials incident at Grasmere Avenue, Ryde, at around 11.08am by request of the ambulance service.

"Toilet cleaner and bleach had been mixed together in a sink and one woman has been taken to St Mary's Hospital in the care of the ambulance service.

"We used two breathing apparatus and a positive pressure fan and have now made the area and the chemicals safe."
