A PLANNING application for a tea kiosk on land next to Yarmouth Common has been submitted to the Isle of Wight Council.

The land is owned by Inez and Andrew Newman, who live in the house opposite, and the kiosk would serve tea, coffee, ice cream and cake to walkers, dog walkers and cyclists.

Inez said: "I came up with the idea after a family holiday to Guernsey last year.

"I saw these kiosks dotted all over the beaches serving ice cream and cake with people sitting outside them.

"I spend a lot of time sitting at my breakfast bar, drinking tea, and see the amount of people who walk, or cycle, past our house, so I thought it would be an ideal little business.

"We own the land which butts on to The Common and we plan to build steps down to the kiosk where there will be decking and a proper bike-rack for bicycles to be parked safely.

"If we get permission, I will probably open from 10am to 4pm and see how we go until the end of the season.

"If there is enough demand, then I hope to take on someone to help me out.

"It will be a nice place for people to relax, have a chat and look out over The Solent."
