THE Isle of Wight could be set for a nutty place in the Guinness Book of Records — with hundreds of people taking part in a hip-shaking jaunt along Ryde seafront.

This year's March of The Mods event takes place on Saturday March 28, with organisers aiming to record the world’s longest Nutty Ska Train, a dance popularised by the band Madness.

The train will progress along Ryde seafront, with the aim of toppling the unofficial record of 423 participants, raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust and Tonic Music for mental health.

The record attempt will see skankers march from The Ryde Pavilion to The Esplanade Hotel, with DJs and live music at each checkpoint.

All artists are playing for free, and all donations received go directly to the chosen charities. To date, more than £26,500 has been raised on the Island and £600,000 nationwide.

A spokesperson for March of the Mods said: "It’s always a wonderful day — a fantastic, bustling atmosphere with great music.

"It's free all day, but we hope everyone buys a £10 day or £5 evening wristband to support the charities and respect the artists giving up their time to make the day a success."

DJ Kath Tan will kick things off at Ryde Pavilion at 1pm, followed by the world record attempt at 2.30pm, although those wanting to participate should arrive no later than 2pm to register.

If the world record is broken, anyone who has made a donation will receive an official certificate to commemorate the achievement.

The event continues at The Esplanade Hotel, before returning to the Pavilion, where a host of bands and DJ’s from across the UK will perform.
