THE Cowes Floating Bridge has been suspended this evening (Sunday) due to a fault with the generators.
East Cowes councillor Karl Love said the service had been suspended while repair teams check the vessel.
Cllr Love said: "There is a fault with the generators on the floating Bridge.
"The fault is affecting the electrics, including the lighting, therefore it is considered unsafe to operate after dark.
"The Isle of Wight Council will engage the appropriate contractors who will check the generators/electrics in the morning.
"A launch service will be operating. I think it’s safe to suggest that people leave more time for travelling in the morning in case the service is still suspended."
UPDATE MONDAY: The floating bridge remains out of service this morning (Monday) due to an ongoing fault with the generator.
UPDATE MONDAY 12:30: The Isle of Wight Council has said: "Our contractor is working on the generator that has resulted in the suspension of the Floating Bridge.
"A further update will be issued once it is known the service will resume.
"A launch service is in operation for foot passengers.
"IW Council apologises for the inconvenience."
UPDATE MONDAY 2:45pm: The Isle of Wight Council has confirmed that the floating bridge has now resumed service.
The council tweeted: "The floating bridge service has resumed from 2pm."
