AN ISLE of Wight primary school has won an award for the quality of its science teaching.

The Bay CE School has received the Primary Science Quality Mark Award, given to schools by the University of Hertfordshire.

It followed a year-long audit, during which assessors visited the school to observe lessons.

Jacqueline Stay, science lead at the school's primary site, said: "The award application required a lot of hard work, so I was delighted to receive the news the Bay School had received the award.

"This was a team effort and a fantastic achievement for the school."

Duncan Mills, executive headteacher said: "Gaining a Primary Science Quality Mark is a significant achievement for the school.

"Children are engaging with great science, both in and outside the classroom, and developing positive attitudes towards science.

"Our science lead, Jacqueline, deserves great credit for driving the development of scientific teaching and learning."
