THERE is confusion over whether the Liberal Democrats will withdraw its Isle of Wight candidate for the General Election.
Despite reports over the weekend suggesting the Isle of Wight seat would be sacrificed — which hit national headlines — the candidate today stated there has been no such agreement.
Selected candidate Nick Stuart said today: "The Liberal Democrats are in negotiations for a Remain Alliance.
"The Isle of Wight is part of those negotiations at national level but there is no agreement and there is no timeline for an agreement and no certainty at the moment.
"There was incorrect information given to local Lib Dem members on Friday which was corrected shortly afterwards."
It was said Mr Stuart would stand aside and votes should instead go to the Green Party.
Members were told the news by letter, but it was later retracted.
