YOUNG sports stars took part in an inter-school competition, battling it out to be crowned athletics champions.
The Cowes Cluster Athletics was held this year at Lanesend Primary School — where Queensgate Primary School's Year 6 boys' athletics team took home the shield for their winning performance.
Team members Will Bridi, George Bridi, George Holbrooke, James Heng, Wilf Sutton and Kai Grace had trained hard for the event in their PE lessons, and also ran every day.
It paid off when they won the 4x100m relay in 54 seconds.
The event was attended by primary schools from Cowes and East Cowes — Lanesend, Gurnard, Cowes Primary, Northwood, Holy Cross, Wootton and Queensgate.
They take it in turns to host events. Schools with larger grounds, such as Lanesend, host the bigger events such as the triathlon, quad kids, athletics, and the cross country race.
Year 6 PE teacher Pete Giles said: "We are a keen and competitive — but not over competitive — area. We all get on well."
