THE children of Ventnor have new swings — thanks to a campaign by residents.
As reported by the County Press, resident-led group, the Longdown Residents Association, had petitioned for the return of Ventnor's North Street Playground swings — and were delighted to succeed.
The swings were removed by the Isle of Wight Council earlier this year, following an inspection which condemned them beyond repair.
Ventnor Town Council has since taken over the playground site, and has been working to pursue funding opportunities to renovate the play area for its community.
Tanya Smith, Ventnor resident said: "We're delighted the swings have been put back, the challenge now is working towards improving our playground with equipment and sensory play.
"The Ventnor flower fairy has been given permission to improve the grass and flowers surrounding the playground — we look forward to seeing what the playground's future holds."
