A COSMETIC tattoo artist has offered free areola tattooing to women who have had breast cancer surgery.

Gemma Bowers, owner of Gemsink, Ryde, started microblading five years ago, and decided to use her expertise to help women who had lost their eyebrows through cancer and alopecia.

She said the rise in her customers' self-esteem was instant, and women would walk into her studio for touch-ups full of confidence.

After deciding to extend her skills, Gemma, 36, took classes to learn how to use a tattoo machine.

She now wants to help women who have had breast cancer to rebuild their confidence in the same way.

She said: "Women who have had a mastectomy often have no colour to the areola, but can't afford to have them tattooed. It's about giving someone their dignity back."

Having already received positive feedback from her clients, who have told her the treatments have changed their lives, Gemma has encouraged women who have breast scars to pop into her studio, at the Hair and Beauty Centre, in the High Street.
