Is this a welcome sight for visitors first arriving on the Isle of Wight?

County Press reader Rich Pitman, who lives on the Island, was appalled at the sight on stepping off the FastCat at Ryde Pier.

He sent us the picture and said: "Not a very welcoming sight for visitors or locals who travel. What an absolutely disgusting sight to see."

Network Rail is responsible for the building, which is part of the pier's railway station.

A spokesperson said: "“We understand the concerns regarding the appearance of the Ryde Pier.

“We recently entered a new funding period, which runs from 2019 to 2024, during which a multi-million pound refurbishment of Ryde Pier will be carried out to benefit passengers, residents and visitors to the Island.”

The County Press understands there are a number of work proposals being considered.
