CHILDREN from Wroxall and Godshill primary schools brought the Edward Lear poem, The Owl and the Pussycat, to life when they competed in a Global Rock Challenge competition.
Held at Portsmouth Guildhall last Monday, nine schools from across Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight took part in the Southern J Rock final.
The Island schools, collectively known as the Stenbury Foundation, entitled their piece A Year and a Day, which is a line from the poem.
They took third place in the competition as well as winning six individual awards — the Ian Wright Consulting Award of Excellence for stage use, the West Sussex County Council Think Family Award of Excellence for concept, the Henry Smith Charity Award of Excellence for soundtrack, the ACRO Criminal Records Office Award of Excellence for costuming Character, the Southampton City Council Award of Excellence for visual enhancement and the Hertfordshire Police Award of Excellence for entertainment.
