THE uniform shop at Christ the King College could move to a mobile unit on the new school site, if the plans are approved by the Isle of Wight Council.

The entire school will move into new facilities at Wellington Road this September, and will operate out of a single site.

The proposed mobile accommodation will allow for the existing uniform shop, currently provided within the main school buildings on the lower college site, to be relocated to the upper site.

This will mean all buildings and facilities — excluding pitches and car parking — will be situated on the former Archbishop King Roman Catholic Middle School site.

The plans, which would see the shop moved next to the bin storage area, have been lodged with the council. The deadline for comments is April 23.

The shop is equipped and run by uniform supplier Simmonds and Son, which invested in fitting out the current shop with display racks and changing rooms a few years ago.

The shop allows parents and students the opportunity to buy their uniform directly on site.

Being within the main building on the lower college site will mean the shop will soon be demolished as part of previously approved landscaping works.

According to the plans: “The shop is valued by parents and therefore Christ the King are keen to re-provide this on the upper site, but the new building does not have the space to accommodate the shop.”

Currently the shop is open for one to two hours a day, four days a week. It is also open during the summer holidays for several weeks to accommodate uniform purchases for the year seven intakes.
